Today, I received a call from a woman who desperately needed help for her 92-year-old mother, who had been discharged from the hospital, but still needed assistance with cooking, shopping and taking care of herself and her home.
Her mother had purchased a traditional long-term care policy 15 years ago, and two years ago, she bought an ASSI service contract to supplement it.
For weeks, the young woman had been getting the runaround from the insurance company, only to finally have her request for coverage be rejected because her mother didn’t meet all of the many requirements needed to trigger the policy.
She was relieved when I told her that we could place a caregiver with her mom in as little as 72 hours, and she was shocked that ASSI delivered while her traditional policy failed her mother.
If your aging parents still live at home and want to maintain their independent lifestyle for as long as possible, now is the time to do your homework. Check your parents’ insurance policies to determine if home care and adult daycare services are covered, and if they aren’t, consider supplementing their plans with a True Freedom service contract from ASSI.
