o often, newspaper headlines can be disturbing. Take the recent news out of Royal Oak, Michigan, for example. This summer, two different women were sentenced for embezzling money from the aging adults in their care. One of the so-called caregivers made $87,000 worth of fraudulent charges on the senior’s credit cards. The other was only able to steal a few thousand dollars before she was caught and prosecuted.
I find these reports to be heartbreaking. We work with seniors and their families every day who count on our caregivers to be trustworthy and honest, in addition to caring and professional. That’s why all of our homecare providers are fully licensed, bonded and insured. We even allow families to choose their own ASSI-approved friend or neighbor to provide their care.
