he Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that it will decrease its payments by more than 2% in 2012. What does this mean to our seniors?
According to Mary Johnson, a policy analyst at The Senior Citizens League who was interviewed in a November 1st article by Smart Money, “Seniors may not feel the effects immediately through Medicare cost sharing, but the reduction might result in greater out-of-pocket costs for non-covered services as agencies increase other fees to make up for the loss in income.”
She goes on to explain that, “there’s a considerable amount of home health care services, often the bulk of care, that Medicare does not cover. Fees for those services might be impacted as agencies shift the cost to patients.”
This is why we at American Senior Services, Inc. encourage our clients to look beyond Medicare, Medicaid and traditional long-term care insurance in order to be financially prepared for their future homecare and adult daycare needs.
